About

The Subject

The subject of this research is ‘A practical approach to screenwriting for writer-directors’.

The Researcher

Diego Arias Asch (1988, San José) has produced a few highly manipulated documentaries, silly short films, suicidal ads and primordial art-books under his production company, Doyle Club. He is a visual artist, absurd columnist, political advisor and producer. Academically, he comes from social sciences. He co-stars on the Tribeca Film Institute-funded long-term film ‘Jamón’, by Neto Villalobos. He is currently based in Amsterdam.

The Program

Taken from the 2016 graduation catalogue:

The Master’s programme at the Netherlands Film Academy (Nederlandse Filmacademie) is a two-year international master’s course for a select group of filmmakers and artists with a few years of professional experience under their belt. Its ambition is to contribute to the development of cinema and media culture by emphasising the need to reflect and research, experiment and exchange. The programme’s focus on ‘artistic research in and through film’, means privileging questions over answers, process over product, experimentation over mere execution and long term effects over short term gain.

During the Graduation Show, the graduates do not only present their projects – their films, their installations, their proposals – but also their research. These lectures, performances, workshops and debates contextualize the projects and raise questions for further development.

The Nederlandse Filmacademie belongs to the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten.
